Careers education, information, advice and guidance are provided throughout the school as follows: 

Careers Education
Key Stage 3 - This is provided through the Learning for life and   Work classes
Key Stage 4 - All year 11 and 12 pupils have two time-tabled periods per fortnight.

Year 11 pupils focus on:

  • Sector Skills
  • Labour Market Information
  • Making informed decisions on careers ideas

 Year 12 pupils focus on:

  • Courses available post 16
  • Completing application forms
  • Interview skills
  • Money management
  • Exam revision techniques

Work Related learning
Throughout KS3 and KS4 pupils have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and talk with them about their career path.  They also have the opportunity of going on educational visits to some of the local businesses.

In year 13, pupils have the opportunity of going on work experience.

Careers advice and guidance
All Key Stage 3 pupils are interviewed by the head of Careers before transition into year 11.
The careers advisor provides careers advice and guidance to all year 12 pupils and referred year 13 and 14 pupils.
All year 12 pupils are also interviewed by the principal and year tutor after their mock examinations.

Development of employability skills
While opportunities for the development of employability skills are integrated into most subjects, practical activity sessions are also provided in collaboration with agencies such as ‘Coleraine Enterprise partnership’, ‘Young Enterprise’ and ‘Sentinus’.

Careers Information
Each department provides information on subject specific career pathways. The pupils are also given opportunities to research information on relevant career websites

Careers News!
Miss McKnight and Ms McConaghie recently attended a STEM event in the Magherabuoy House Hotel in Portrush.
Throughout the event, pupils had a first hand opportunity to sepake to local STEM employers which could potentially provide them with quality employment in the future.
Additionally, the students had the opportunity to participate in the W5 science roadshow.
Everyone involved came away feeling very positive about the event and with their new knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
