At KS3 Music level, all pupils receive three double periods over a two-week period. Topics include:

Year 10: History of Music, Medieval to present day.

 
 

GCSE Music Specification:

The examination board used is CCEA. There are three elements to the course: Composing, Performing & Listening.

 

Component 1:

Performing and Appraising

External examination assessed by a visiting examiner

Students present one solo and one ensemble performance. (30%)

Students discuss and evaluate performances with the visiting examiner. (5%)

Component 2:

Composing

Controlled assessment

Students create two compositions. One is in response to a pre-release stimulus and one is free choice.

Teachers mark the tasks, and CCEA moderate the results. 30%

Component 3:

Listening and Appraising

External written examination

1 hour 30 minutes

Externally assessed by visiting examiner

Solo performance

Viva voce 32.5% of AS 13% of A level

AS 2: Composing

Internally assessed, externally moderated

A: Composition Task

B: Composition with Technology Task

Written commentary 32.5% of AS 13% of A level

AS 3: Responding to

Music

Two external written examinations

Test of aural perception 1 hour

Written examination 2 hours

35% of AS 14% of A level
